SNOW DAY STYLE//#OOTD

Greetings! It's so exciting to have had our first snow of the season here in Richmond. This was a nice snow in that we got a few inches, but the roads were for the most part still drivable so we weren't stuck inside for too long. With snow on the ground, you may be wondering: How can I still look cute while dressing appropriately for the snow? Glad you asked! Here are my tips for looking like a stylish snow bunny, while still having a functional outfit that allows you to walk and maybe even play! in the snow. Here are the elements of a great snow day style.

1) FOOTWEAR
Snow boots are going to be your best option here. You want to be practical, and not ruin any of your regular shoes going out in this weather. Snow boots no longer have to be ugly, moon-boot looking monstrosities! They can be chic and comfy, while also being water repellant and warm. In my look below, I chose a gum boot style. These were around $40 from TJ Maxx last year. What I love about these is that they come with a removable fur insert, so they can be worn two ways. LL Bean has some great classic gum boot styles. Sorel is another wonderful brand with stylish snow boot options, but they are going to be more costly. Target usually has some great boots of this style this time of year. Another favorite choice is the classic Hunter rain boot. These will be perfect for the snow with the warm sock insert. There are some great dupes for Hunter boots at stores like Target. Finding boots with fur trim are a fun way to elevate the look.
2) LAYERS
Dressing for the winter weather is all about layering up. If you are like me, (extremely hot natured), layering is even more important. For my look, I chose a thin knit tunic sweater (Old Navy last year) layered with a black quilted vest (Old Navy, >1 year). I love the option of a vest because you can get a lot of warmth without too much bulk and without becoming crazy hot. Options for sweaters and vest combos are limitless. Another look idea is swapping the sweater for a plaid flannel shirt. This is also warm, and gives you a fresh winter look.
3) JEANS
If you are going out in the show, jeans are a good idea. If they get wet, it won't ruin the fabric. I would suggest wearing a slim cut jean since you will be tucking into boots and have several think layers on top. The jeans I am wearing are some older jeans from Target.
4) ACCESSORIES
Accessorizing is the fun part! Poms are still a huge trend, so finding a beanie with pom topper would be a perfect update for this season. Lots at places like Target and Old Navy right now. A blanket scarf is also a must here. These are available at some amazing price points. See my post about blanket scarves here). The one I am wearing here is actually one from the dollar bin at Target (it was $7) and cut in half (similar scarf here) . I loved the bright colors in the plaid. The other half was given to a friend. As you can see, there is still plenty of volume left for me! Gloves in a bright color are a fun way to add playfulness and interest to your look. The gloves I chose are from Target and have the touch screen capability, which is really important. Don't forget your sunnies as it's going to be super bright out there with all the snow! Mine are one of my favorite pairs ever and only $9.99 from TJ Maxx (Jessica Simpson brand). Hat is from Lou Lou's which is one of my favorite local boutiques! (Similar hat here).
